Downloaded: 3 times | Size: 1135 pages | Add to wishlist | Download for @300 credits
Like Joyce's Ulysses this bookis a lifetime's work to understand. In response to theover-intellectualization of western man Gurdjieff set out to 'burythe dog deeper'. This first part of Gurdjieff's 3 point attack isdesigned to break western man's way of thinking. A real headtwister.
This mammoth and cosmological epic examines human life on Earthfrom the viewpoint of beings belonging to a distant world, led bythe "all-wise Beelzebub". The reader is given a detaileddiscussion of all matters physical, natural, and spiritual, fromthe creation of the cosmos to man's teleological purpose in theuniverse

Downloaded: 14 times | Size: 305 pages | Add to wishlist | Download for @50 credits
Right around the turnof the 20th century, G.I. Gurdjieff initiated a group of spiritualadventurers called the "Seekers of Truth". These intrepidintellectuals of every stripe criss-crossed Africa and Asia insearch of the hidden mysteries of antiquity. In Meetings withRemarkable Men, Gurdjieff narrates their exploits while drawingportraits of these extraordinary figures (including one woman anda dog). Half travel journal, half autobiography, Meetings withRemarkable Men begins with Gurdieff's childhood, when he finds hisbook learning at odds with paranormal events that wereself-evidently real but inexplicable through modern science. Laterhe discovers a map of "pre-sands Egypt" and evidence of theSarmound Brotherhood, alleged keepers of ancient wisdom datingback four-and-a-half millennia. He climbs the Himalayas, followsthe Nile, and is led blindfolded to a mysterious monastery. In hisencounters with dervishes, monks and fakirs, Gurdjieff recoversthe wisdom he seeks, by comparison with which Europeanunderstanding, he says, is backwards and barbaric.
The Herald of Coming Good
Downloaded: 10 times | Size: 87 pages | Add to wishlist | Download for @50 credits
In Herald of Coming GoodGurdjieff portrays himself as a black magician in contrast to hisrole a white magician in Life is Real Only Then When 'I am'. Interms of Gurdjieff's Law of Three, these books convey two opposingresults of the processes expressed in his other two books,Beelzebub's Tales To His Grandson, which expresses a negative ordestructive force, and Meetings With Remarkable Men whichexpresses a positive or creative force. Herald is the expressionof a negative result, or in Gurdjieffian teaching terms, anegative third force leading to devolution, while Life expressesthe result from a positive or evolutionary third force
The Struggle of the Magicians

When Ouspensky saw anotice for Gurdjieff's ballet it was the beginning of the end ofhis search for the miraculous:"One day in the office of the newspaper I found, while preparingfor the next issue, a notice (in, I think, The Voice of Moscow)referring to the scenario of a ballet, 'The Struggle of theMagicians,' which belonged, as it said, to a certain 'Hindu.' Theaction of the ballet was to take place in India and give acomplete picture of Oriental magic including fakir miracles, sacred dances, and so on. I did not like the excessively jauntytone of the paragraph, but as Hindu writers of ballet scenarioswere, to a certain extent, rare in Moscow, I cut it out and put itinto my paper, with the slight addition that there would beeverything in the ballet that cannot be found in real India butwhich travellers go there to see."
